Elizabeth Keessen

Ellie graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Ecology, Evolution, and Biodiversity and Environmental Studies, as well as a minor in art & design. In high school, she was a founding member of Reading Buddies, a program that sought to address inequalities in early childhood literacy rates between high- and low-income communities. She has tutored students of all ages, from elementary to high school, in subjects such as biology, reading, writing, and mathematics. During her time at Michigan, she served as a Peer Mentor for the Sustainable Living Experience, leading workshops for younger undergraduates covering topics in sustainability and environmental science. In addition to her teaching experience, Ellie worked in two research laboratories at Michigan, where she studied artificial reefs in the Bahamas and agricultural ecosystems in Michigan. In addition to tutoring, she is currently working for the United States Geological Survey Great Lakes Science Center. Given her personal experience growing up with ADHD, she is especially excited to work with neurodivergent students, helping them build executive functioning skills and confidence to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
