6 Homework Apps to Help Keep You Organized

Managing everything you have to do as a student can seem like a full-time job. With so many classes, activities, club meetings, and homework assignments thrown at you every day, it can be very overwhelming to keep track of it all.

Luckily, there are some great homework apps you can install on your phone or tablet that can help you know what classes you have coming up each day and stay on top of all of your assignments.

Here are six of our favorites. We hope these help you stay organized all year long!

  1. MyHomework Student Planner
Featured in USA Today, Yahoo News, Time Magazine and more, this is one of the most popular student planner apps. Although the design is very simplistic and the app doesn’t have a ton of features, it does allow you to track your classes, homework, tests and assignments. The home screen gives you an overview of all of the homework you have due, which you can filter by class, priority and type. In addition, if you sign up for a free myHomework account, you can sync your calendar across other platforms, receive homework reminders and sign on to the app using your Facebook account.

Although the myHomework app supports traditional school schedules as well as block schedules, it does not support alternating block schedules, so if you have an A/B schedule, this is probably not the app for you.

Available for: iPhone, iPad, Android tablets (Kindle), Android phones, Windows, Mac and Chromebook
Cost: Free for the basic version (with ads), or $4.99 per year for the premium version with no ads, ability to add file attachments, enhanced app widgets and external calendar access.

  2. The Homework App
Featured in Forbes Magazine, Lifehacker and Paste Magazine, The Homework App offers lots of ways to keep track of your homework. You can use the calendar to look at your tasks on a daily, monthly or yearly basis, and add subtasks so you can organize projects that have multiple steps. You can also set reminders to do homework tasks, and you can keep track of all of your teachers’ contact info, too. Plus, The Homework App allows you to choose between an A/B schedule, weekly schedule or rotating schedule.

Available for: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android. Requires iOS 10.0 or later.
Cost: Free for the basic version (with ads), or upgrade to the “boost” version to gain access to instructors, subtasks, picture notes and an ad-free experience. Subscription options available for one month, six months or 12 months.

  3. My Study Life
This app is a full-fledged homework management app with its own web application, which is awesome because you can check your assignments from your computer or your phone. Plus, the calendar view shows all of your classes and assignments at the same time, and it shows you incomplete tasks that are due soon so you know what to work on first. The design is unique, too, with circles showing what percentage of a task is completed and how much more you have to go.

    Available for:
iPhone, Android, Windows 8, Windows Phone and the web. Requires iOS 8.0 or later.
    Cost: Free
  4. Egenda
This simple, yet well-designed app makes it easy to add multiple types of assignments and manage day-to-day assignments. You can create daily reminders about what’s due the next day, add notes to remember group members or assignment details. Plus, you can easily sort your assignments by class, due date, or completion to find everything you have to do in a snap. One word of warning: Since their last update, many users have been complaining about bugs, but the developers say fixes should be coming soon.

Available for: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Android (4.0.3 and up). Requires iOS 8.0 or later.
Cost: Free, $2.99 for in-app products

  5. Chalkboard
The best time to write down your homework is right when it’s assigned. That’s why it’s great that at the end of each class, Chalkboard displays a notification that lets you add your homework assignment quickly and easily. Plus, the app automatically mutes your phone during class so you’ll never get in trouble for having your phone ring accidentally. After school, you can set reminders to finish your homework at a time of your choosing. One downside: This app doesn’t currently support A/B schedules.

Available for: Android (5.0 and up)
    Cost: Free

  6. iStudiez Pro
This app is one of the most elaborate in our list, with functionality that lets you input all kinds of events into your schedule (not just your classes), so you can add events for hanging out with friends or a club meeting to see your entire life’s schedule in one place. Plus, this planner works with all types of class schedules, including a classic schedule, alternating (A/B) schedule, rotating schedule or block schedule.

Another cool feature is that you can organize all of your assignments by date, course or priority, and you can sort them by pending and completed as well. Other bonus features include the ability to add contact info for all of your teachers and the ability to enter your grades so you can track how your GPA is doing.

Available for: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, mac OS, Windows, Android (0 and up). Requires iOS 10.0 or later.
    Cost: $0.99 to $9.99

Unfortunately, none of the apps listed above will actually do your homework for you — that part’s still up to you — but at least they’ll make it more likely that you’ll get it finished on-time and stress-free.
