Samaiya Butler
When Samaiya Butler graduated from Spelman College with a BA in English, she knew she wanted to master what it means to be an educator. So she enrolled in the University of Chicago’s Urban Teacher Education Program where she will earn her masters degree in June 2022. Samaiya has been gaining experience in education from a young age. When she was a student at Lindblom Math & Science Academy, she was a peer tutor in the writing center. From there she worked summer jobs in daycares and local after school programs. And during her time at Spelman, she volunteered in Atlanta Public Schools; taught English, communications, and technology to high school students in Namibia; and founded Reading FUNdamentals, an after school reading program that aims to expose students to more Black writers and enhance their reading skills.
