Gertjan Vriend

Gertjan is from The Netherlands and grew up in a tiny village close to Leiden, the birthplace of Rembrandt van Rijn. From a young age his big passions were soccer and history. Not surprising Gertjan got is B.Ed. in history (since he was not good enough at soccer to go pro!). In 2013 he moved to Chicago to live with his wife, teach at the Global Citizenship Experience High School, and tutor at Educational Endeavors. Later he spent five years in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as a history teacher at Washtenaw International High School. There he also developed an executive functioning curriculum for his 9th grade students. In the summer of 2019, Gertjan moved back to Chicago where he’ll start a master’s program at NEIU in community and teacher leadership, tutor at EE, and hang our with his 2-year-old son. Gertjan is excited to work with students at Educational Endeavors in the topics of history, executive functioning skills, and test preparation.
