Carlos is an educator, researcher and poet. As a lifelong learner, he loves the feeling of being lost in a new language, country or archive. Carlos first studied journalism, then got a master’s and a PhD in literature, deciphering old manuscripts of the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. Having lived in Brazil, Portugal and the US, he has worked as an ecologist, translator, editor and teacher and was the curriculum chair of GCE Lab School in Chicago from 2012 to 2014. At GCE, Carlos integrated both humanities and STEAM, creating curriculum and teaching across subjects. From 2014 to 2015, Carlos traveled around the world, visiting 20 countries. He loves logic, poetry and languages, and speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish, French—and a bit of Italian, Kiswahili and Nepali. In addition to tutoring in the humanities, Carlos also supports students with test prep, including the TOEFL iBT exam.
