Ammar received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a minor in math and chemistry at Southern Methodist University and then earned his master’s degree in biochemistry at City College of New York. However, before getting a master’s, he did seriously entertain the idea of becoming a Middle Eastern studies professor focusing on Turkish history and current affairs while at the University of Texas at Austin. He is fluent in Arabic and has intermediate mastery of Turkish. Most recently, Ammar completed a PhD in medicinal chemistry at UIC.
Ammar has been tutoring since 2008. He enjoys getting to know students and finds it very satisfying when things start falling into place for them, ultimately translating to better grades. Outside academia, Ammar enjoys politics, history, traveling, culture, and ’70s movies and music. He is also an avid NBA fan!
