Ultimate 8th Grade Test Prep: Overview

The purpose of this course is to prepare 8th graders for all high school entrance exams required by various Chicago area schools: the NWEA MAP & SEHS (for CPS selective enrollment high schools), HSPT (for Catholic high schools), ISEE (for private high schools) & SSAT (for boarding schools). The course is designed for 8th graders currently attending a public, charter, private, or Catholic school. Register now.

What you get with your registration:

  • Strategy packet with strategies specific to each of the tests your 8th grader may have to tackle, the “Ten Commandments” of test prep (fundamentals applicable to standardized tests in high school and beyond), and strategies tailored to each content area (math, reading, vocabulary, language & logic).

  • Our helpful guide to all the best online resources.
  • Twelve sessions that each include practice sections, strategy review, and content review.
  • Smaller is better! No more than 18 kids in any class. Period.

Sessions 1-4: 

  • Comparing the NWEA MAP test and the CPS selective enrollment exam: similarities and differences in content, format, rules, and strategies.
  • The “Ten Commandments” of standardized tests: strategies that work for any exam.
  • Math & reading strategies and practice.
  • These weeks are great prep whether your child is taking the NWEA MAP in the fall or focusing only on the SEHS and other high school admissions tests.

Sessions 5-11: 

  • Ultimate 8th grade diagnostic test.
  • Overview of format, rules, and strategies for all high school admissions tests.
  • Vocabulary, language, and logic concepts & strategies.
  • Math, reading, vocabulary, language, and logic practice sections.

Session 12: 

  • Q&A about previous test questions and topics.
  • Strategy review.
  • Summative assessment of all content areas and question types.

Schedule: You will register for either the Saturday or Tuesday class. If your child cannot attend his or her regular class in a given week, contact Educational Endeavors to find out if the student can attend on the alternative day as a makeup for that week. We will do our best to accommodate these requests.
